Murrumbeena women ticked off the first semi final against Bentleigh in mean fashion today, charging to an 8.7 to 3.3 victory.
After heart-thumping pre-final runs and drills, the Lions charged to a big lead. While Ally Williams starred, other experienced hands were not far behind in creating carnage with tenacity. Other five best players announced by coach Andrew Fisher in the packed change rooms afterwards were Emma Morison, Tess Williams, Grace Bibby, Kat Rosendorff and Tori de Groot.
Murrumbeena FNC dug deep to come from about five goals down against Clayton and win by eight points.
Second top team in the SFNL under-19s second division, Cranbourne, sought to play Murrumbeena on a neutral ground, Mordialloc, and was taken down by some red-hot Lions. It was Beena’s second win for the year. The victory, 11.6 to 7.8, was inspired by bookends — high-marking forward Mitch Simmons (five goals) and deep defender Riley Brkic (one goal, and the many launches of “kick and get a second kick” link-ups up and down the ground). Tysen Nguyen was captain for the day. The sixth captain for the year!
The Reserves had a resounding win with MFNC winning by 20 goals: 25.7 to 5.7 to ensure finals action!! Goals were coming from everywhere including 2 goals from Asad Khan, more affectionately known as ‘Sardie’!! Both goals were a highlight and brought ‘the house’ down, particularly the 2nd one which was on a tight angle, but it sailed through without any drama!! All the lads rallied around to celebrate both moments with him, as it was his first & 2nd goals for the season! Well done ‘Sardie’!!! It was a very exciting afternoon to see our team win so convincingly!! Congratulations to all the boys – a great team effort!!!
