PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Well we are finally here! Season 2022 officially begins this weekend, and I can’t wait. The teams are confident and our numbers are great. Sure, there will be hiccups due to the ever present restrictions, and there are logistical issues due to the grandstand rebuild.
But we get to play.
To all our supporters, thank you for your support. To our many loyal sponsors, thank you for stickingwith us.
And to the playing groups, it’s your time now. All the best for a great start to the season.
Give them everything.
Go Beena!

COACH’S MESSAGE

Hi to all the Beena Families & Supporters,
I hope all are well and have enjoyed the extended off season, it was great to see so many of you at the recent practice matches especially those who travelled to Fish Creek to support the squad.
Since appointments were made, the Senior coaching team set out a clear plan not only for this season but for sustained success moving forward.
With a list with 80% under the age of 22 it was clear that we need to build a strong, sustainable culture & be very selective on the people we bring into the club. So, we decided to focus on recruitment from 2 main categories under 25 to grow with the main list or ex Murrumbeena senior players able to help nurture their development while being able to compete at a senior level.
With the ongoing support from Rohan White and Ian ‘Freddy’ Hargrave we are delighted with our additions. Joining the team this year we have recruited some very talented young men such as Lucas Cloke, Josh Cenitich & Will Woodburn.
We have also brought back some very experienced familiar faces. Steve Tolongs (100+ MJFC games), James Shirley, Phillip Zarra, MichaelKinsella, Jack Brammar & Jake Semmel.
Our fitness staff have been incredible this pre- season with big thanks to Jack Brammar running boxing sessions, James Shirley’s boot camp &Sonia De Rose for running blocks.
We have also partnered with Pulse8 centre we’re a huge commitment from over 30 players across all the teams have dedicated themselves on Wednesday nights for strength & Condition training to prepare their bodies to the rigors for high-pressure senior football which we hope to achieve.

The coaching staff of were delighted to be joined in the new year by Murrumbeena legends Joel Statham as Senior Assistant coach/ Defensiveco-ordinator & Will Nash as Reserves assistant coach.
The buy in from all players has been incredible starting with 15 on the track to over 60 last week & has finished off nicely with our previous two weeks of practice matches.
For our first practice match the club travelled to fish creek with a squad of 32 across seniors & reserves where we had a convincing win against a proud Fish Creek outfit which fielded Murrumbeena former players Tom Cameron and the Walker brothers.
For our second practice match we played Elsternwick a team which dominated D4 VAFA last year & both reserves & Seniors came away with victory.
It was a delight to see our senior players adding some serious heat and protection at the contest that our handballing transition and lateral kicking game plan really improved with some notable performances from youngsters in the likes of Josh Godden and Tysen Nguyen in both games.
I am delighted with our entire playing list for there on going commitment to each other lead by
Jordan Cusin – Senior Captain
Jake Semmel – Vice Captain
Josh Cenitich – Transitional Leader
Thomas McDonald – Transitional Leader
Eddie Brown – Reserves Captain
Thank you for your on-going Support, together we can make this a year to remember.
Liam Wilson & Michael Kinsella

When did you start playing for Beena?
Started playing for Beena in 2015,previously I played for Moorabbin Kangaroos

Favourite memory on-field
The 2017 Preliminary final against Keysborough. Halfway through the season the Club was not performing on the field. However, something clicked and we went on a 2016 Western Bulldogs-esk finals run. It was a tight game against Keysborough, then late in the 4th our current head coach, Willo, hit a checkside from 50m out to send us into the Grand Final.
Best advice on the footy field
Get the handball off Hicksy.

What are you most looking forward to in season 2022
Firstly getting the Seniors their first win since the 2019 finals series. The bigger picture is building a new Club culture. We have so many new faces atthe Club and we have a unique opportunity to build something that will bein place for many years after we hang up the boots. The buy-in so far hasbeen excellent and it is the most excited I’ve felt at the Club for a long time.
