BEENA SENIORS GO TO TOP OF LADDER

Ohead Mark

Murrumbeena rose to the head of the SFNL division 3 ladder today, toppling leader Black Rock 7.12 to 5.11 in glorious sunshine. The Women suffered their first defeated while depleted U/19s and Reserves Teams also went down.

Murrumbeena opened with a four goals to none in the first quarter with Charlie Berthun, back from injury, leading the defence and Steve Tolongs (five goals) running hot. Promoted reserves player Lucas Shimota stepped into the breech as number one ruckman. He had Jake Semmel and Will Woodburn at the bottom of packs winning clearances. Semmel showed again what he meant when he told the Beena newsletter he believed a player going in hard ultimately experienced less injury. The second half was an arm wrestle, and Black Rock sniffed a come-from-behind win in the first minutes of the last term. But Murrumbeena skipper Jordan Cusin organised his troops to repel a string of offensives.+
